The story of the Barn.
We are a small family farm in the Promised Land valley, and Brown Dog Barn is the building we could not leave alone — an old barn on a beautiful ridge, restored so that one couple at a time can enjoy it properly.

The restoration
The Barn has been beautifully restored by hand, keeping the things worth keeping — the timber, the proportions, the way the light moves through it — and quietly adding everything that makes a stay feel effortless. A premium kitchen, a deep bath on the deck, air-conditioning for the hot valley nights, and the wood fireplace for the cold ones.
The result is rustic outside and indulgent inside: a place where you can walk in with a bag of groceries, put your phone in a drawer, and not think about the world for a few days.
Why just for couples
We only take one booking at a time, and only for two. It is the whole point of the place: no noise next door, no shared deck, no compromises. It also means we can look after the details — candles lit, fire laid, bread baked — for every single guest who arrives.
If you are travelling with another couple, our sister property, Cloud Valley Cottage, is on the same twenty acres, so you can be together without being on top of each other.
Our favourite day in the valley
The farm, and the brown dog
Twenty acres of farmland, a few cows in the far paddock, and a brown dog who takes her duties around the property very seriously. The Barn is named for her. Expect a friendly hello from a distance, and otherwise all the quiet you came for.
A warm welcome
Freshly baked bread in the kitchen, muesli, milk, coffee and tea — so you never have to rush out to the shops.
Then complete privacy
The Barn is yours. No shared spaces, no other guests, and no reason to lock anything but the door.
